ORTONA 100
Ortona 100 was the centennial celebration of our building organized by OATA, tenant members and in partnership with our broader arts community. Built in 1914, the Ortona Armoury was built as a Saddlery and Warehouse by the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC). The value of the building was placed at $25,000 in 1914. To pay homage to our built history and to the building we call home, our community came together to host four days of Celebrations from Thursday September 25th to Sunday September 28th 2014 during the Alberta Culture Days.
Celebration events included:
- Vernissage of Artist in Residence Carly Greene‘s sculptural installation titled “out of sight, out of mind, old boy” in the Ortona Gallery.
- Bear’s Picnic performance by Mile Zero Dance from outdoor to indoor, throughout the building.
- Darkroom Demonstration by Lindsay McIntyre in the FAVA Darkroom.
- Visual art retrospective Group Show in the Ortona Room with artworks from the Ortona Armoury Arts Community.
- BEAMS electro-acoustic concert in the Ortona Room.
- Photo shoot with photographer Russ Hewitt in the Ortona Room.
- Milkshake Matinée in the Ortona Room
- Ortona Open House: Stéréo Extravaganza, make your own Flipbooks with Tiny Moving Images, FAVA Cult Days, Edmonton Film School demo, sound installation by Shawn Pinchbeck
- FAVA Food Truck Dinner
- FAVA parking lot film screening of “Son of Rambow“, 2007.
- Ortona Community BBQ
- Trincan Steel Band Concert in the Courtyard
